Metheny with Ondřej and Michal _jazz

Ondřej Zámečník and Michal Gromiřík are launching a band where jazz musicians and jam session enthusiasts can come together – on the playing field of Pat Metheny’s sophisticated music. The band is open to less experienced players as well. The goal is to form a large band of 10–15 people. It’s going to be a challenge!

Buty with Matěj _Ostrava finest

Buty Are Back! Once again, we’ll explore the work of Radek Pastrňák and the legendary Ostrava band Buty.

It would be helpful to be able to read sheet music and know at least the basic chords. However, this isn’t a requirement. Our goal will be to learn the songs by heart.

I’ll take on any challenge—I’m not afraid of a challenge.🎵

To join the band, you must know the meaning of the word "buty." I recommend Ostravsky slovnik.

Singers, go for it! I’m happy to accept more singers. The more voices, the more Buty.

The repertoire will depend on the final lineup of our band.

I’m looking forward to it—it’ll be fun.

Choir with Kačka and Markéta _choir

This time, we’re setting sail from an African port out onto the open sea! Sea shanties will guide us through storms and calm waters, to ports teeming with drunken sailors, broken hearts, and rum-soaked nights.

Who knows, maybe we’ll see the Flying Dutchman or learn the songs of the legendary sirens. One thing is certain, though: it’s going to be loud, wild, and a hell of a lot of fun.

Kohútkovjánek with Vlastík _folklor, cimbálka

Hello! Would you like to…

… experience firsthand what folklore is all about?
… understand why the musicians in the basement will only play Čechomor and Jožka Černý for an extra fee?
… find out how to properly play the czardas, verbuňk, and táhlica?
… learn how to really give it some balls?

If you answered “yes” to at least half of these questions, Kohútkovjánek is the right choice for you. The goal is not to rely on sheet music, but to learn to play songs as closely as possible to how they are played in their respective regions. The foundation will certainly be the holy trinity—čardáš, verbuňk, and táhlice—but we can also focus on specific regions, learn how to play particular dances, or explore Slovakia.

The basic requirements are, first and foremost, to be able to play your instrument, play a simple melody by ear, read chord symbols for accompaniment (don’t worry, you definitely won’t see any #9 add b13 here), and ideally, to be able to sing while playing—but we can work on all of these skills during the course.

Recommended instruments:

violin
viola (or violin, provided that chords are played on the lower strings)
double bass
cimbalom
clarinet / flute
You could also use a cello, accordion, harmonica, trumpet, or various folk whistles—but we would have to adapt the repertoire accordingly

Hippie Rock Mashup with Martin _rock

Drugs, hippies, and Vietnam. An era when music lost all inhibitions. Do you have the soundtrack from the game *Vietcong* stuck in your head and want to play it live?

Knowledge of basic chords and sheet music, as well as a love of messing around with sound effects, is a big plus, but not a requirement.

We need to fill the "holy five" for the band: vocals, drums, bass, guitar, and keyboards. The more of us there are, the better—there’s no limit.

We'll base our setlist on legends like Jimi Hendrix, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and The Groupies. We'll fine-tune the specific setlist depending on how things go.

Come, Pay, Plug & Play! _swing, jazz

Jam Session Band

Don't want to be stuck in a band? Want to just show up whenever you have time and jam and have some fun with whoever happens to be there? Then you're reading the description of the perfect band. Jam Session Band isn’t a traditional band, but rather a platform for those of you who want to learn new songs, prefer jamming over playing the same old set, and want to meet new bandmates all the time.

How will it work? It’s simple. Below you’ll find the dates and the songs we’ll be playing on each day. All you have to do is check them out a bit in advance and listen to some recordings by the great masters (you’ll also find a Spotify playlist below), and then just show up, pay 300 CZK via QR code, join in, and play or sing. Whether you come to all the dates, just one, or just for the song that interests you, that’s entirely up to you. We’ll also be rotating the days so those of you with regular commitments on certain days of the week will have a chance to come, too.

The band won't be part of the Show Off lineup either, but we'll reap endless glory at a jam session with Swing Wings on June 14, where we'll play all the songs and jam until we drop.

Suitable for any instruments and vocals (lyrics and scat) at any skill level. For a better practice experience, we recommend using the iReal app.
