Snarky Kitty s Michalem _new fusion

The world is rejoicing because another ambitious band is taking the stage! This time, we’ll try to get a feel for the music of the fabulous American band Snarky Puppy. Of course, we won’t be playing with as many people or cranking the volume on our amps to such high levels, but we’ll learn some selected hits and gain an understanding of the band’s rhythm and arranging genius. We welcome all instruments and all skill levels, though the ability to read sheet music at a basic level is required. And in addition to the rehearsals, we’ll also have a bonus team-building event on September 13 at SONO!

Brazil se Štěpánem _bossa, samba

In “Brazil” with Štěpán Holík and Markéta Nováková, we’ll dive into bossa nova and samba together. The former is more refined, the latter more fiery, but both are a treasure trove of rhythm, colorful harmonies, and captivating melodies that will keep you up at night. Whether you’re a guitarist, singer, bassist, or play any other instrument, you won’t be able to escape the Brazilian rhythm, which will accompany you throughout our lessons and help you discover a genre that’s new to you or deepen your existing knowledge of Brazilian music. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced player or singer, there’s a place for everyone here!

I need a rhythm section, ideally with an acoustic guitar. An electric guitar would work, too. As for other instruments, there are no limits—I can always come up with a part for you.

The sheet music will be in the form of leadsheets, where each one will start with a few measures of “instructions” on how to play the entire piece, and then we’ll develop it further during rehearsals. So I don’t need anyone who’s an absolute whiz at reading music.
I'm not exactly a multi-instrumentalist, but I can show the rhythm section what I want you to play, or I can play it on the piano if necessary.

I don't play any wind instruments. A long time ago, I used to play the violin a little. I enjoy working with vocals—even with multiple vocal parts.

Coldplay s Hynkem _alternative post-britpoprock

When I was a kid watching Óčko, where they often played the music video for “Viva la Vida,” I thought to myself that it was pretty good. In my first band, we played songs like “Paradise” and “The Scientist,” and I thought they were really good. Then a good friend and fellow musician of mine showed me the album *A Rush of Blood to the Head* (which includes the aforementioned “The Scientist”), and I thought it was really, really good.

Last year at Littner, our band played the song “Fix You,” and it was really, really good. Well, as it happens, they were playing “Fix You” recently at a café where my sister and I were having coffee, and I was just thinking about what I’d be teaching at Kohútek this fall. All this rather trivial information leads to the following crucial piece of news: we’re going to play Coldplay in this band!

We’ll focus mainly on their older work. We’ll play their hits, but also some lesser-known “deep cuts”; we’ll brainstorm the final song selection together. We need drums, bass, vocals, keyboards, and guitars—and we want everything else too (like strings or horns). It would be great if you knew at least the basics of your instrument. I want to work as much as possible by ear, but I can provide chords, sheet music, etc.

Buty with Matěj _Ostrava finest

At a rehearsal space in Brno, a band led by a musician from Břeclav is rehearsing songs from Ostrava. Does this sound like a bad joke? But it’s the harsh reality. 😀

Everyone is familiar with the work of Radek Pastrňák and his band Buty these days. Judge for yourself: Nad stádem koní, Demáček, Jednou ráno, Mám jednu ruku dlouhou, and many others. The list is extensive.

That's why we'll spend the long autumn evenings rehearsing the diverse repertoire of this legendary Ostrava band.

It would be helpful to be able to read sheet music and know at least the basic chords. Being able to improvise is a plus, but it’s not a requirement. Our goal will be to learn the songs by heart.

I'll take any instruments—my door is open to everyone. Singers, go for it! The more voices, the more Buty.

The repertoire will depend on the final lineup of our band.

The Doors Project s Martinem _psychedelic rock

The late 1960s. The Vietnam War, street protests, hippies, drugs, and a generation questioning everything that had seemed self-evident just a few years earlier. From sweltering Los Angeles comes The Doors—a band that blended blues, jazz, psychedelia, poetry, and a healthy dose of darkness into rock ’n’ roll. A sound that can be intimate and dreamlike one moment, and just a few bars later, dangerous, raw, and utterly captivating.

Over the course of ten weeks, we’ll immerse ourselves in this atmosphere together and build a band around songs like Break on Through, Roadhouse Blues, Love Me Two Times, Light My Fire, and Riders on the Storm. We’ll explore groove, our shared sound, improvisation, tension, and the energy that keeps The Doors’ music alive nearly sixty years after its creation. We’re looking for a vocalist, guitarists, a keyboardist, a bassist, and a drummer. Ten group lessons, one band, and a concert at the end. Break on through to the other side.

Winter Songs of Old England

Time to cool off! Join us as we dive into the icy past, when the legendary fairs took place on the frozen Thames. For a moment, we’ll become poor carolers who sing their hearts out in exchange for a little warm food. We’ll try our hand at (not-too-complicated) polyphony, transform ourselves into the spirit of winter, and maybe even get in on some music-making. The choir is open to everyone—even those whose voices tremble. In this session, we’ll finally put that to good use!

Scary Pockets etc. s Géraldine _funk, soul & pocket music

This wave I am hosting people that like bands like Vulfpeck, Scary Pockets, Louis Cole, Cory Wong apod. Meaning lots of tight grooves, proactive energy, and joy. In order to make this fun I need people who feel comfortable with rhythm (as in who can be tight to some extent) and people who either read music or are capable enough to learn from the recording (poctivě).
